Fonseca Tawny spends three years ageing in small wooden casks, typically holding around 630 litres. As it matures, the wine gradually loses its deep red ‘ruby’ colour and develops the seductive amber hue known as ‘tawny’. This transformation also results in a progressively smoother and mellower wine with richer and more complex aromas. After three years, the wines are blended a few months before bottling to achieve balance and harmony. Fonseca Tawnies are bottled for immediate consumption.
Available in a 500ml bottle, at 20% abv.
TASTING NOTES
Plenty of jammy notes at the forefront before a hint of apricot and plum comes through with a slight acidic feel left in the mouth on the finish.
